Introducing investigative interviews to replace traditional interrogations is a modern worldwide trend aimed at improving the efficiency of law enforcement agencies’ work. Investigative interview cues the law enforcement officers to conduct systematic and comprehensive investigation of the circumstances of the crime and prevents premature conclusions on the case.
Consequently, this method helps the law enforcement bodies to investigate crimes efficiently, and at the same time, to provide proper procedural guarantees for suspects, which contributes to creating a stable relationship of trust with the community. National practice of conducting interviews by pre-trial investigation authorities in Ukraine is not fully consistent with the investigative interview standards and has more features characteristic for the accusatory approach to obtaining information from the suspect, focused on obtaining his confession in the committed crime and the suspect providing the circumstances of how it had been committed.
